This story is starting to have a life of it’s own and another article was published in the SMH today. This afternoon it was on the front page of the SMH website (see the picture below for evidence)
Yesterday’s article implied the distributor was responsible for the offending DVD.
In today’s article, the official distributor for the DVD said their captioning is “absolutely perfect”, implying the council had screened a pirated copy of the DVD. If a pirated copy was used Ryde Council might be prosecuted for copyright infringement.
At this stage it is still not clear where the offending DVD came from.
So far Ryde Council ...

What a terrible embarrassing moment for Ryde Council on Saturday night!!
Ryde Council had organised a screening of The Queen as an outdoor cinema setting in a cricket oval somewhere in North Ryde.
The council had thoughtfully advertised the event using their contacts within the Auslan community stating the film will be screened with captions. The Council had organised a similar event last year, which I attended with a friend and saw An Inconvenient Truth. The event last year went without a hitch and the captioning quality throughout the film was excellent.
However last Saturday night (I didn’t attend the screening because I support Australia in becoming a Republic and am not interested in the British Royal Family) ...

Oh Fuck! It’s the new year already.. I’ve been lazing around during my two week break and had meant to do a post about the Eugenics debate which is currently being fought by deafies in the UK. I promise to post my views on the topic later this month. The truth is I can’t be arsed to write a post about it at the moment because there are too many thoughts of mine on the topic and I need time to sort them out.
This year I hope to have some more dating stories to share on the blog (to provide some entertainment for my readers at least), so yes I *will* be getting off my arse with aim to ...

Many thanks to the people who had sponsored me for movember, I appreciate it. I had raised a total of $126 considering I didn’t do much to hassle people to sponsor me. It’s a good amount.
Overall a record 96,623 Australians had registered themselves to raise $10,745,570 (money amount was correct at the time of writing). Well done, this amount had easily surpassed last year’s amount of money raised (approx $7.5 million).
Excellent….
I’m will be looking forward to doing it again next year....

Today was another lazy Sunday arvo and I decided to watch a film Tony had lent me. He told me to watch it coz he likes it and I’ll never forget his words..
“It’s about a deaf hitman, he’s not a victim in this one”
or words to that effect.
So I watched it and…
I was not prepared for what I saw, I expected the film to be one of those usual action film flicks you normally see where the formula is as follows..
1. Good guy (or the hero), experiences some traumatic loss usually involving the death of loved ones or some bad guys fuck him ...

It’s that time of the year again.. in November I will be growing a mo to help raise money for the Prostate Cancer Foundation and beyondblue.
The funds will be used to create awareness, fund research and increase support networks for those men who suffer from prostate cancer and male depression.
Last year the initiative had raised over $7.3 million, let’s hope this year we can raise some more.
If you want to sponsor me, there are a few ways you can do this.
1. (The easiest way) Click on the big black button on the top right hand corner of this blog.
2. sponsor me
3. Head over to [www.movember.com] and my sponsorship number is 62091. ...

For those of you who were interested in a potential senate inquiry into Deaf and Hearing Impaired’s access to film and television, I had written a brief post about Motion No. 877
Earlier this week I had received an email from Senator John Faulkner (because I live in the area he represents) giving me some information about what happened to Motion No. 877.
Motion No. 877 had been withdrawn by Senator Natasha Stott Despoja because of an announcement by Senator Helen Coonan, Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts.
Read about the announcement here.
In a nutshell…
The clear purpose of this investigation will be to stocktake developments in captioning and other essential access technologies ...

Speed Dating Experiences
Some of you may be aware that I’ve been going to a few speed dating events, for those of you who ARE not aware.. I’m telling you now!
The first one was a poker night and I admit the REAL lure was the $200 prize not meeting women.
Anyway I always approach these nights as trying to have a good time by being a silly larrikin and not taking anything seriously. To me it’s training.. nothing else. If, on the odd chance, I do meet someone when then it’s a bonus.
If you’ve seen the movie Batman Begins there’s a scene that is on my mind at the moment where Bruce ...

Tony told me I had to watch this you tube clip.. and so I did. Ohhhhhh man This clip actually reminded me of a convo I had with Mum years ago not quite the same as what was discussed in the clip but it was the closest thing I spoke to her about my deaf identity.
Brilliant satire.. I love it!!

OK … I’m trying to be calm & serene about this development in the senate last week. They were due to vote on a motion to hold an inquiry into the state of captioning in Australia for Deaf & Hearing Impaired.
Natasha Stott Despoja was leading the charge to support an inquiry.
Democrats’ Senator for South Australia Natasha Stott Despoja, a long term advocate for improved captioning, said Australia lags about five years behind the United States, United Kingdom and other comparable countries when it comes to captioning for the deaf and hearing impaired.
“Hearing impairment and deafness can lead to isolation in the family and community, in the workplace and institutions such as hospitals and aged care homes. ...
